Questions about what this tool does, which option to pick, or what it can and cannot handle.
The question you type here is sent to an AI provider to be answered — your files and whatever you put in the tool above are not, and the assistant cannot see them. Answers are generated and can be wrong. The tool itself is not guessing: it runs deterministic code on your device.
About the Sign PDF
Signing a document electronically covers two quite different things, and knowing which one you are doing matters more than the mechanics.
This adds a visible signature image to a PDF: draw one with a mouse or a finger, type a name in a script face, or upload a photograph of your handwritten signature. That is an electronic signature, and it is legally recognised for the great majority of everyday agreements in most jurisdictions, including India under the Information Technology Act, the United States under ESIGN, and the European Union as a simple electronic signature under eIDAS.
What it is not is a digital signature. That is a cryptographic operation binding a document to a certificate issued to a verified identity, which proves both who signed and that nothing changed afterwards. Some documents require one — certain filings, certain regulated transactions — and no image of a signature satisfies that requirement. Getting a digital signature means a certificate from a licensed authority, not a drawing tool.
For everyday agreements the visible signature is what people expect and what the process is built around. What gives it evidential weight is not the image but the surrounding record: who sent it, when, from where, and the exchange of messages that shows the parties agreed.
Placement is by dragging onto the page, with the size adjustable. Sign after any merging or reordering, since both invalidate a signature and, more practically, move it.
The document is signed in your browser. A contract you are signing is not a document to upload to a stranger's server on the way to signing it.
How to use it
- 1Drop in the PDF to be signed.
- 2Draw your signature, type it in a script face, or upload a photograph of a handwritten one.
- 3Drag it into place and size it to fit the signature line.
- 4Do this after any merging or reordering, since both would move or invalidate it.
Questions
- Is an electronic signature legally binding?
- For most everyday agreements, yes — under India's Information Technology Act, the US ESIGN Act and the EU's eIDAS regulation among others. Certain categories, such as some property and testamentary documents, still require wet ink or a qualified digital signature.
- What is the difference from a digital signature?
- A digital signature is a cryptographic operation using a certificate issued to a verified identity, proving who signed and that the document has not changed. This adds a visible mark. Where a digital signature is required, no image will satisfy it.
- Can someone copy my signature image out of the PDF?
- Yes — any visible signature in any document can be extracted and reused, which has always been true of paper too. Evidential weight comes from the surrounding record of the exchange rather than from the image being secret.
- Is my document uploaded to be signed?
- No. It is opened and modified in this browser tab. A contract on its way to being signed is close to the last thing that should be uploaded to a third party.
